The Story
La Patrona rum sells a perfect family story: a father sacrificed himself to save his illegitimate daughter, and the wife and mistress he left behind raised their daughters together. Twenty-five years later, the miracle child’s face still sells every bottle.
Lorna León has turned the family’s old factory store into a beach bar. She kitesurfs, pours free drinks, and keeps the party going while her sister Imani keeps their failing dynasty afloat. Matriarch Rosario protects the family legend. Carol, Lorna’s mother and the rum’s distiller, protects her daughter from the trouble behind it.
Then Mad Millions, a financier who destroys sacred objects as art, buys the family’s relic—the Coraza—and her father’s memorial.
Lorna discovers that the memorial is her father, still alive but trapped in amber, and tries to reclaim the relic to save him. The confrontation unleashes the Coraza’s power, killing Rosario and leaving Carol dying after she shields her daughter.
With help from her bartender Jacques, Lorna escapes with Carol and the Coraza. Mad broadcasts a different family story: the miracle child is a witch, a murderer, and a thief. His bounty turns their sun-soaked Islands into a hunting ground.
As they flee through the communities whose labor built the León fortune, Lorna begins to understand who has paid for the freedom she took for granted.
With Carol running out of time, Lorna descends beneath the sea to find her father and learn what the commercial left out. His love saved her. His refusal to let go trapped him.
